Artist Statement
My work, though interdisciplinary, comes from the same place: a concern about the world around me and my position in it. It always incorporates the way I perceive my environment as well as its politics and the medium I use to explore these realities. My work, positioned in between several disciplines, within painting, drawing, sculpture or digital media, always incorporates research. The relationships within my works are to be read in non-linear ways and are built on a cornerstone of deep analysis and research of certain topics. These formal investigations are integrated into my artistic practice frequently by incorporating non-traditional materials. My research focuses on politics, orbiting around topics such as racism, xenophobia, identity, history, religion and the epistemology of visuality in the age of globalization. I often connect my creative work with historical events. I perceive language as a material, as a tool that lacks aesthetics, often not; juxtaposing it to other materials and symbols that allow the viewer to consider the content of the work in the context of their lives.
