About Parsons - Parsons Fine Arts

The BFA program in Fine Arts exposes students to an array of studio practices, ideas, and global relationships. Our students learn to translate complex ideas into individual expression through the use of color, form, space and movement. They embrace interdisciplinary approaches to thinking about visual culture, and above all, they cultivate the intellectual rigor required to successfully launch their careers as professional artists, or in related fields. Students learn traditional techniques relating to painting, drawing and sculpture but they also learn how to work innovatively, pushing the boundaries of what contemporary art means today.

Parsons School of Design is one of the premier institutions for art and design education in the U.S. and has been a pioneer in the field since its founding in 1896. Based in New York, the school offers undergraduates and graduate programs across all art and design disciplines. Critical thinking, research and collaboration are at the heart of a Parsons education. An integral part of The New School, Parsons builds on the university’s legacy of progressive ideals and social responsibility. Our graduates are leaders in their respective fields, with a shared commitment to creatively and critically addressing how life is lived in the 21st century.

Once again this year, Parsons has been ranked the best art and design school in the country by QS World University Rankings, a London-based ranking agency. The school was rated no. 1 on its list of best art and design schools in the United States and no. 2 on its list of best art and design schools in the world.
