Familiar Like Skin is now on view at Transmitter Gallery from October 21 to November 19, 2023. This is a two-person exhibition featuring three sculptures by Anahita Bagheri, a current Parsons Fine Arts MFA candidate, as well as three paintings by Bayan Kiwan.
Anahita Bagheri’s papier-mâché sculptures mimic the characteristics of living bodies through their curving forms and skin-like paper surfaces. In her work, Bagheri is inspired by traditional craft found throughout Iranian art and architecture, namely the Eslimi Khataei ornamentation as well as the craft tradition of painted and lacquered boxes.
