Shahzia Sikander

December 2, 2015 7PM

Sikander’s practice takes Indo-Persian miniature painting as a point of departure, challenging its strict formal tropes as well as its medium-based restrictions by experimenting with scale and media. Her process-based work examines the forces at stake in contested cultural and political histories. Solo exhibitions include Sikkema Jenkins and Co., NY; The Renaissance Society, Chicago; The Hirshhorn Museum, Washington DC; ArtPace, San Antonio, Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum, CT; Irish Museum of Modern Art, Dublin; Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney; and the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, Spain.
