Carlos Motta’s multi-disciplinary work draws upon political history in an attempt to create counter narratives that recognize suppressed histories, communities, and identities. Recent solo exhibitions include his career survey “Carlos Motta: Formas de libertad” at Museo de Arte Moderno de Medellín ; “The Crossing” at Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam ; “Lágrimas” at Museo de Arte de la Universidad Nacional / Claustro de San Agustín, Bogotá; “SPIT! Manifesto” (with SPIT!) at Frieze Projects, London; “Histories for the Future” at Pérez Art Museum, Miami; and “Requiem” at Museo de Arte Latinoamericano de Buenos Aires. Motta participated in the 32nd Bienal de São Paulo, was awarded the Future Generation Art Prize of the PinchukArtCentre and the Vilcek Prize for Creative Promise.
