Sophia Ma is an independent curator. Co-curating with Eliana Blechman and Patrick Muhundro, she gathered over 200 artists and 400 artworks for Project Art Distribution’s retrospective exhibition at Walter Elwood Museum in Amsterdam, NY. She also curated Golnar Adili and Zac Hacmon in “Memory Palace” for SPRING/BREAK Art Show New York in Spring 2020. For her graduate thesis at Hunter College, CUNY, completed in Fall 2020, she studied the work and spiritual practices of abstract painter Bernice Lee Bing (1936-1998). Ma also worked in development, operations, and administration for the Museum of Chinese in America between 2010-2013. She moved onto Projects Plus Inc. to help non-profit organizations with their fundraising efforts in 2014-2015. Currently, Ma is a program and research coordinator for Starning Consulting on public programs and community outreach for the Newark Museum of Art and The Public Theater. She is also in the process of starting a curatorial collective that’s rooted in promoting early career artists of color. She is published in Hyperallergic, The Brooklyn Rail, Art Papers, Artsy, Art Spiel, Arte Fuse, and White Hot Magazine.
