Lauren O’Neill-Butler is a New York-based independent writer, editor, and educator. Her criticism and non-fiction have appeared in publications ranging from Art Journal to The New York Times to Artforum, where she formerly worked as a senior editor. She has written numerous exhibition reviews since 2007 and has published over 150 interviews with artists, filmmakers, and other luminaries. Her long-form critical essays and features have explored Agnès Varda’s films from California, Jo Baer’s writings, Nancy Spero’s final works, the activist art collective fierce pussy, and the impact of Shulamith Firestone’s radical philosophy. She holds graduate degrees in art history and philosophy and has been a visiting critic at Cooper Union, Stony Brook University, USC, Yale University, and the University of Chicago.
