Dexter Wimberly is Executive Director of Aljira, a Center for Contemporary Art in Newark, NJ. Wimberly has curated exhibitions and developed programs with galleries and institutions around the world including The Brooklyn Historical Society; California African American Museum; Contemporary Art Museum, Raleigh, North Carolina; and the Museum of Contemporary African Diasporan Arts, NY. Prior to developing his curatorial practice, Wimberly was the founder and CEO of the pioneering Marketing and Public Relations agency, August Bishop; Director of Communications for The Museum for African Art, NY, and most recently, Director of Strategic Planning at Independent Curators International, NY.
