Artist Bio
Carolina is a second year MFA in Fine Arts student at Parsons School of Design and has been based in New York City since January 2021. She is originally from Santiago, Chile, where she has spent most of her time, and graduated from a bachelor and master’s in architecture from the Pontificia Universidad Católica in 2018. After architecture school, Carolina worked in a couple of studios for short-term projects, and then as a researcher for her former university and The National Fund for Scientific and Technological Development of the country. While she was doing this, in 2019, Carolina started experimenting with materials, trying to respond to personal questions that architecture could not resolve for her. How do we use our body in space, what does it mean to use space, and how do we perceive or not human presence, are some of the concerns that set in motion her artistic practice. Carolina conceives her works as embodied research methods, where her own body has become the main subject, submitting it to performative actions, endurance pieces, creations of molds, plaster sculptures, and a narrative that comes from personal experiences that are intended to trespass to more than just herself.
