We are happy to announce the inclusion of work by Loretta Lomanto (MFA ’10) and Mary Younkin (MFA ’10) in (home), a national juried exhibition on the idea of “home” curated by artist Joan Bankemper.
As an all-encompassing idea that is charged with emotion, (home) may be just an overused advertising meme; (home) also serves as a political knot of identity, security or displacement. James Baldwin wrote “Perhaps home is not a place but simply an irrevocable condition.” Distinguished artist Joan Bankemper is the juror for this midsummer show.
Juror Joan Bankemper has shown with Creative Time, Inc., NY; The New Museum, NY; Artpace, San Antonio, TX; The Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, Boston, MA; and Wave Hill, Riverdale, NY. Bankemper received grants from The George Sugarman Foundation and the NEA. The McColl Center of Visual Arts awarded her the Gabi Award. Bankemper’s videos and videograms have been exhibited at Leo Castelli Gallery NY; The Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles; The Detroit Institute of the Arts; The Padiglione d’Arte Contemporanea, Milan; Marianne Boesky Gallery, NY and the Hirshhorn Museum, Washington, DC.
