Parsons Faculty H. Lan Thao Lam is Named 2017 MacDowell Colony Fellow

Parsons faculty H. LanThao Lam has been awarded a 2017 MacDowell Colony Fellowship.

The mission of the MacDowell Colony is to nurture the arts by offering creative individuals of the highest talent an inspiring environment in which they can produce enduring works of the imagination. Lam will be working on the final stages of a collaborative project with New School faculty and Director of Undergrad Programs Lana Lin. Saxa Loquuntur takes psychoanalyst Sigmund Freud’s former home and antiquities collection as its points of departure to explore how physical sites and objects are invested with psychic meaning. With the Nazi invasion of Austria, the Jewish psychoanalyst was forced into exile. Exiles, according to Edward Said, feel “an urgent need to reconstitute their broken lives.” Saxa Loquuntur responds to the materiality of exile. What remains behind when one is banished from one’s home? What of the attachments to objects that are involuntarily severed?

Join us in congratulating Lan Thao on this honor!
