Congratulations to MFA alum Alicia DeBrincat for a fellowship participating in the museum’s The Studios at MASS MoCA/Assets for Artists residency program! As quoted by Alicia herself,
“I’m taking advantage of my time here by creating several new paintings in my ongoing series exploring portraiture in the age of the selfie. Merging traditions of painting, photography, and DIY printmaking, these works appropriate and recombine imagery harvested from online image searches, advertising, and social media. Painted faces seamed together from multiple online sources perch within a web of photographic imagery, creating hybrid imagery that speaks to the instability and permeability of the contemporary body in an online world.”
