Curators Erin Davis and Max C Lee are pleased to announce Re:Re:Re:Re:Re:Re:Re:Re:Re:Re:Re:Re:Re:Re:Re:Re:Re:Re:Re:, the 19th iteration of Re: Art Show.

Participating Artists Include: Justin Sterling, Jordan Cruz, Alanoud Ahmed, Vaginal Davis, Reagan Holiday, ERIDAN, and vei darling.

Justin Sterling – I make art out of found objects from cities. I explore how everyday objects shape our social behavior through history and politics. My aim is to unravel the way we view power, authority, and control by revealing various truths about urban ecosystems and American poverty.

Jordan Cruz – Five months after Hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico, a dependent unincorporated US territory, much of the island remains without power and access to basic resources. Progreso no Incorporado is an ongoing exploration of the island’s unrecognized political system which seeks to exist in relation to its sovereign counterpart. Through the use of propagandistic symbols taken from Puerto Rican history and modern headlines disseminated through mainstream American media, the work reestablishes a conversation about the institution of American privilege, citizenship, and disconnection of these ideas for Puerto Rico.

Alanoud Ahmed – Alanoud Ahmed’s work is a reserved observation of the absurdism behind how Americans categorize people from Muslim majority countries. Ahmed is exploring why these issues are occurring now more than ever, with a hope to raise awareness about xenophobic encounters that people face, with particular focus on notions of safety, Islamophobia and anti-Arab sentiments.

Vaginal Davis – Vaginal Davis is an originator of the homo-core punk movement and a genderqueer art-music icon. Her concept bands – including Pedro Muriel and Esther, Cholita! The Female Menudo, black fag, and the Afro Sisters – have left an indelible mark on the development of underground music. Several drawings by Ms. Davis will be on view for the show.

Reagan Holiday – Reagan Holiday employs the aesthetics of drag performance and the sound of harsh noise music to push the viewer into an aggressive yet transcendental state. Reagan will be performing during the opening reception.

ERIDAN – ERIDAN is the collaborative efforts of Eri King and Daniel Greer.  Their conceptual framework explores the Everyday within the backdrop of America’s consumer culture.  They utilize rigorous artistic practices by means of labor intensive handmade executions as a simile to the ritualistic nature of consumer culture habits. ERIDAN will be performing sound-based works during the opening reception.

vei darling – vei darling is a multi disciplinary artist with a focus on writing, living in New York. vei will be reading recent poetry during the opening reception.

Re: Art Show is an ever-evolving, recurrent, curatorial project spearheaded by Erin Davis and Max C Lee. Operating within portions of the former Pfizer Pharmaceutical factory in Brooklyn, Re: Art Show brings together an abnormally wide breadth of artists in an abnormal environment. Through the embrace of chance, ad-hoc adaptation, and experimental collaboration (both with the environment and the artists themselves), each iteration acts as a fluid network of ideas whose connections are, at once, coincidental and directed. For every iteration, another Re: is added to the show’s title.

See more at Re: Art Show and explore more of Justin’s work.

Open Saturdays and Sundays 11—6 PM, Monday through Friday by appointment.
