Avery Z. Nelson was born in Rhinebeck, NY and received their MFA from Columbia University. Nelson has recently exhibited their work at Rachel Uffner Gallery (NYC), Mrs. Gallery (Queens), Harper’s Gallery (East Hampton), PS 122 (NYC), and JDJ TriBeCa (NYC). Nelson has mounted solo exhibitions at the Rubber Factory (NYC) and JDJ|The Ice House (Garrison , NY). Their work has been reviewed in numerous publications including The Brooklyn Rail, Artforum, Artspace, and Bad at Sports. In 2019-2021 they were awarded a rent-free studio through the Sharpe-Walentas Studio Program in Brooklyn. They have been adjunct faculty at Parsons since 2018.
