Alison Burstein is the Curator of Media and Engagement at The Kitchen in New York. In previous roles as Program Director at Recess and as a member of the education departments at MoMA, the Guggenheim Museum, and the Brooklyn Museum, she organized a wide array of artist projects, public programs, performances, and experimental classes. As an independent curator, she has curated exhibitions or programs for institutions including Tenthaus (Oslo), Mana Contemporary (Jersey City), The Luminary (St. Louis), Knockdown Center (Queens), Museum of Jurassic Technology (Los Angeles), and NURTUREart (Brooklyn).
Alison’s research focuses on the intersections of institution-building and institutional critique in the United States and Europe from the 1970s through the present. She holds an MA in art history from Columbia University and a BA from Wesleyan University.
