Throughout the 20th and 21st centuries, artists have been disrupting the flow and progression of modern thought through works that challenge conventional, traditional and archaic modes of thought. This invasion was brought about by half a century of new technological integrations, a shift to transdisciplinary art practices, the critique of institutional and market-driven art space and an increasing interest in spatial encounters related to embodied experience. You could say artists are the original invaders of social space continuing that tradition today in the visual and theoretical realms. This show will explore the concept of invasion in the physical space of the gallery and the invasion of art in the conceptual framework of contemporary cultural ideologies.
