In this moment of crisis ordinariness, we need a way out, an exit strategy. There is a space of possibility for art somewhere between offering a momentary diversion and proposing another utopia bound to fail. Can art model strategies for our escape, collectively or individually, while avoiding these easy answers? The artists in this show have created works that exist more outside of the gallery than inside it, and act as invitations to another place, invitations to exit. In doing so, these works propose new relationships between artwork, audience, and artist. These vectors out of the gallery point to the exit doors we might take if we choose, and begin to articulate a collective exit strategy.
