Tianyi Sun is currently living and working between Los Angeles, New York, and Beijing. Her transdisciplinary practice and research reimagine the boundaries between data, narrative, document, and experience. Tianyi’s works have been exhibited in the United States and China, most recently at the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery (LA) and Proxy Gallery (LA).

My practice explores the modes in which bodily experiences are encoded, re-coded, archived, and disseminated. I am concerned with de-centering singular narratives and excavating alternative encounters within data and archival schemas. Through interweaving painting, film, text, computer graphics, and programming I attempt to reimagine how the digital remnants of a physical body can be mobilized beyond a final frame. If a document can function outside of an inherent context to be in a fluid state of becoming, it can in turn transform, question, and challenge.
