Carolina Munoz is a second semester MFA in Fine Arts student, with a background in architecture and science. Before coming to NYC, she was living in Santiago, Chile, where she is originally from. Carolina’s practice includes sculptural works in plaster, concrete and cardboard mostly, and since the start of her studies at Parsons, she has been conducting an embodied research method, where she uses her body as the main material. Through exhaustive documentation in video, photographs and writing, Carolina builds her own experimental archive. Almost as if they were scientific experiments, each project is treated and praised in its whole process.

My practice is currently in a phase of experimentation. I have submitted myself to an embodied research method that is being documented in video, still images and writing. Through the direct interaction between my body and different materials, I have come to question what we are really in contact with. Sitting down at my desk, surrounded by polymers, or inhabiting an everyday city of concrete. It is very extreme, as covering my head completely with tape. Or rice, or compost, or a plastic bag. Concepts like domesticity, excess, boredom, confinement, emptiness, void, memory, accumulation, (dis) functionality, exoskeleton, absurdity and humanity, are a few where my work revolves, emerges and submerges itself, in a sort of cyclical movement necessary in order to exist. I am interested in the space in time that is generated within an interaction. Between you and yourself – anyone, anywhere, anytime. That threshold that makes us humane.
