“Mirage Show” at Brooklyn Fire Proof features Parsons Illustration alumna Lulu Wolf

Mirage Show, an exhibition of contemporary collage curated by Geoff Kim, opens on Friday, April 13th from 6:00 – 10:30 pm at Brooklyn Fire Proof. Included in the nine person show is Parsons Illustration Program graduate Lulu Wolf (2010) and former faculty member James Gallagher.

“The Mirage Show features work from an impressive roster of internationally recognized artists, many of whom call on their expertise in an array of digital mediums to inform their works on paper. Drawing on an expansive selection of cross-media imagery from both vintage and hyper-contemporary sources, participating artists build upon and destabilize the history of collage to recreate a medium in concert with the Internet Age. The Mirage Show, by including both art-world approved veterans and some of our favorite young talent, showcases the very best of a community of artists working in the rapidly changing medium. The opening party will feature luminescent projections via the Gowanus-based JohnWhitlock, sets from Comadrome and Cluster DJs Catdog, as well as Mario Zoots of the throbbing, ghostly, globe-spanning remote collaborative Modern Witch.”  Brooklyn Fire Proof, 119 Ingraham St, Brooklyn, NY

Jordin Isip and James Gallagher in Move #19

1369_001MOVE #19

“He said- he was enjoying the donuts for the most part, and laughing hysterically?”
A Collection of Works Curated by Rich Jacobs

FIFTY24SF is proud to host the 19th installment of Rich Jacob’s renowned “Move” series.

“Move” is an ever evolving group exhibition that boasts a myriad of artists from across the U.S. Everyone one from Jordin Isip and Evan Hecox to Dave Ellis and Barry McGee have been involved in one or more versions of the “ Move” movement.  Rich Jacobs, the founder and curator, has been keeping the “Move” alive for over ten years and continues to bring some of the best artists together for the eclectically composed event. Mixing various styles and mediums to the point of (what would seem like) chaos, Rich builds an orchestra of sensory stimuli.

Who is Rich Jacobs?

This internationally renowned artist is recognized as much for his distinctive illustrations as his role as a successful and innovative curator for more than a decade. Jacob’s natural ability to unite the best talent under one roof stems from his genuine nature and, the desire to expose the public to good art and artists. He has a unique way of cherishing the everyday details of life, and recreates the chaos of the daily hustle by engaging over 20 artists to participate in each new edition of “MOVE” Rather than stick to one aesthetic, Rich pulls from a well of talent, mixing photographers and writers to graphic designers and illustrators for a well rounded experience.

Opening Reception: Thursday, October 1st, 2009, 7-9:30pm
Runs thru: Oct. 1st, 2009 – Oct. 28th, 2009

James Gallagher in new Ink catalog!

gallagher-ink-page

Check out Adjunct Faculty James Gallagher’s contribution to the Ink 01 International Illustration Gallery Catalogue.  Tons of other fantastic artists are included, as well.  Here’s the official description of the project:

Communicating stories through illustrations has always been something almost marginal, reserved to a selected percentage of public. But this aspect has evolved so much over recent years that illustration has become very common in our everyday landscapes. It is increasingly used as a tool to work in different creative, commercial and artistic disciplines. That is why, when it comes to reflect and show its current outlook, boundaries are usually dissolved and creators that represent it work in such diverse fields as advertising, graphic design or art.

Ink was born as a meeting point to facilitate the relationship between illustrators and creators from different countries. A space to learn about the current situation of world illustration and in which to talk about and reflect upon its present and also future. It turns to be a conceptual, visual, reflective exploration of illustration that we hope will lead to the finding of new places.

Read and see more about this cool catalogue here.

Congratulations on your inclusion, Jim!

Bonus: You can check out a video preview of the catalogue over at Ink’s Vimeo channel.

Updated: The Panorama Project 3 at Jonathan Levine

The Panorama Project 3: 134 artists, one continuous piece
curated by Jordin Isip
(Parsons Illustration Faculty)
and Rodger Stevens (Parsons Illustration Faculty and Alum)
September 6th—October 4th, 2008
Opening Reception: Saturday, September 6th, 7pm—9pm
Jonathan Levine Gallery, NYC

The Panorama Project 3 is a group exhibition featuring commissioned works by over one hundred artists, which will be combined to create a single collective artwork and a site-specific installation. This show will be the latest in a series of large-scale group exhibitions curated by New York based artists Jordin Isip and Rodger Stevens. Since 2001, they have been bringing together an ever-expanding network of painters, sculptors, illustrators, designers, photographers, and video makers to create conceptually and visually unconventional group projects. Some of the original participants included: Doze Green, Chris Johanson, Misaki Kawai, Barry McGee, Georgie Stout, and Eric White. This exhibition is a variation on one of their earliest efforts.  It creates a single, continuous work, comprised of one hundred and thirty-four individual pieces.

The participating artists each received a 7” x  5” wooden panel, on which to create their portion of the installation, with one requirement:each work had to include some manner of horizontal line or division, set at 1-3/4” from the bottom of the board. This common visual device allows each of the separate pieces, when installed together side by side, to cohere into one long contiguous image**a panorama, encircling the entire gallery space. With no knowledge of what would appear on either side of their panel, each artist had the freedom to interpret the line in their own unique way. The installation creates a grand and unpredictable visual synthesis, in a monumental iteration of the exquisite corpse concept. Bringing together artists from so many disparate fields, unlikely to ever appear in the same exhibition space at the same time, this show creates an opportunity for lively experimentation and unexpected results, inspiring innovation while working within a set of prescribed limitations.

The show features a whole plethora of Parsons faculty and alums including:

Yong Choe
Carl Dunn
Ingo Fast
Johanna Goodman
Chesiel John
Andy Kehoe
Hiro Kurata
Liz Lee
Chang Park (faculty)
Jeff Quinn (faculty)
