Reading Paintings one-night-only group show in DUMBO tonight

Reading Paintings showcases a group of (mostly) recent Parsons Illustration graduates with works that address literature and the collaborations between image and text. It is a one night only event. “It’s going to be a really fun time with booze, music and cool art by cool people.”

One Hundred Dollars

Recent Parsons Illustration graduates  Su kyung (Hannah) LeeRachel Levit, and Hazel Lee Santino, and faculty Melinda Beck, Jordin Isip , and Taylor McKimens were included in One Hundred Dollars, a group show curated by Andrew Smenos and Sergio Barrale this summer at Littlefield in Brooklyn, NY. Each piece by the one hundred artists had to use a dollar bill as its canvas. Some of the other artists included were Daniel Davidson, Tricia Keightley, Rob Leecock, Matt Leines, Kristen Schiele, Joe Sorren, and Eric White. 8 Parsons students with 13 images Chosen for American Illustration 31

Recent Parsons Illustration 2012 graduates Iain BurkeLeah GorenRachel Levit, Yasmin LiangRay MasakiHazel Lee Santino, and Chad Weaver, and 2011 grad  William Hatch Crosby were chosen by a distinguished jury to be included in the American Illustration 31 archive this fall.

These 13 works from the Parsons Illustration Program were chosen from over 8,000 pieces entered by illustrators, magazines, agencies, publishers, and schools. Congratulations to them and their teachers!

Chelsey Pettyjohn and Hazel Lee Santino Awarded Scholarships from the Society of Illustrators

Parsons Illustration seniors  Chelsey Pettyjohn and Hazel Lee Santino were awarded  scholarships in the 2012 Society of Illustrators Student Scholarship Competition. Congratulations to them on this great achievement!

Chelsey was awarded the $1,500 Nancy Lee Rhodes Roberts Scholarship  for “Night Religion 02” which was done in Jordin Isip‘s Senior Thesis 1 class.

Hazel was awarded the $1,000 In Memory of Effie Bowie Scholarship for “Bigfoot in the Woods” which was done in Martin Mazorra‘s Relief Printmaking class.

10 Parsons students selected for the 2012 Society of Illustrators Student Scholarship Exhibition (Part 1)

Parsons Illustration seniors Iain BurkeCiara Gay, So Yoon Kim, Rachel Levit, Yasmin Liang, Chelsey Pettyjohn, Monica Ramos, and Hazel Lee Santino, and recent graduates William Hatch Crosby and Leslie V. Robertson (class of  2011) were selected by a distinguished jury to appear in the 2012 Society of Illustrators Student Scholarship exhibition. Only 250 works were chosen from a record 8,119 entries. Congratulations to  them and their teachers!

Art13 Benefit Auction

PS126 / Manhattan Academy of Technology is holding its annual Art13 Benefit Auction on Tuesday, June 21st. The auction helps to fund the school’s art program, as well as being an opportunity to showcase work by the students of school. The event is being hosted by Cey Adams of Def Jam records and will be held at Lombard-Freid Projects.

The auction includes work from current and recent Parsons Illustration Faculty members Melinda Beck, Gregory Benton, Edward del Rosario, James Gallagher, Jordin Isip, Tara McPherson and Chang Park as well as Illustration Alumni William Hatch Crosby, AJ Fosik, Hiro Kurata, Paula Searing and Hazel Lee Santino. Jordin Isip helped to organize the event and collect the work.  Over 50 students from PS126 will also be featured in the exhibit.

Tickets are $20, or $10 for students. The auction runs from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. (bidding on items ends at 8).
