Parsons Illustration Alum Angie Mason has an exhibition of works opening up at the Rabbit-Hole Gallery tomorrow.  Here’s the official press release:

You know in life those tragic moments that are so full of comedy, misguided attempts gone awry, good intentions with terrible outcomes. You know that feeling, the awareness of something being unhealthy yet ingesting it anyhow with disregard for any later consequences. This is a taste of some of what you will find within this collection of works. It is a flawed carnival of creatures that are misplaced, displaced and confused within these painted worlds.

These are Moments that rise up from the darkness in life which we can all at some time or another relate to. These are the rock bottom babies born out of wrong doings and hard times. These are vicious poison snake biters we all battle in life. These are the poison mushroom fungi that grow on us as the blown out wishes from weeds entangle our lives. Rising from the murk a swamp queen dream all full of fungus yet she uses the poison, the illness in life to gain strength to keep on living. These are the golden carrot dreamers that hung for too long. These are the caged moon catchers trying to control things beyond their control. These are the self poisoned bloated beasties, These are the lost,the used and the jealous moody bruised tired souls. These are paintings of a morose & unsociable nature and with that I give you A MURKY MENAGERIE all new works by Angie Mason.

Larry Roibal (’82) recently had his piece “Sunday Morning” accepted for the Communication Arts Illustration Competition. Larry’s unique style was also highlighted by the fine folks over at Drawn a couple of weeks ago.  See more of Larry’s work at his website. Congrats!

Alum Chris Roth has been creating like crazy, including tons of animations for CBS (like this!), a Spiderman stained-glass window in honor of legendary artist Stan Lee, and this great spot for Channel Frederator (the first piece is his!):

Alum Angie Mason recently had her work included in the Fusion 5 Festival, which is an amazing new art festival put together by Strychnin Gallery Owner Yasha Young and Hotel 3.14’s creative director Dani Morla.

Angie also posted images up also at her flickr site and had this to say about her experience:

It was a great event where each artist was given a room/suite that matched their art (no two rooms are a like at this very unique hotel) and the artists had to fill the space with their work making the room their own and then have it viewed during the opening party exhibits and public openings. There was wonderful music and art and press and an ever flowing amount of absolute vodka since they were one of the main sponsors.

  • Illustration Alum Jonathan Jay Lee sent us an email recently saying, “I did some really exciting stuff in Hong Kong, I drew this comic book for this HK popstar called Kary Ng. She wanted to be a superhero, it was used for her concert and her new single. I did a cover for HK magazine, and I redesigned and painted the interior of this club in Lan Kwai Fong…If you get the chance, I posted links and pictures of my projects in HK at the end of my website.”

  • Illustration Alum Dan Yaccarino is writing a screen adaptation of his children’s book, Where the Four Winds Blow as an animated feature for Fox/Blue Sky Studios, developing a new animated series based on his popular book Unlovable and writing and illustrating more childrens books.
