Early Still Lifes
My recent photographs were conceived with the historical still life in mind and produced via a 4×5 film format that is abstracted by digital means. The kaleidoscopic results allude to the fragmentation of images after the advent of the Internet, while the vibrant and patterned studio backdrops have been carefully selected to anticipate the pixels of digital displays, providing an existence for work both in the gallery and in cyber-space.
Bio: Gabriel H. Sanchez (b.1989) is an art critic and photographer, currently residing in Brooklyn, NY. He holds a B.A. in Photo-Communications (2012) and an MFA in Photography (2014) from Parsons The New School for Design. His writings and work explore medium-specific concerns of contemporary photography, particularly how images are perceived after the advent of the Internet.
