How to Cook Docomodake?

Come to the opening of “How to Cook Docomodake”, a temporary gallery space and exhibition opening on Friday October 19th, 2007 in Nolita. At this occasion, Docomodake, the iconic mushroom character created by telecommunication company Docomo in 2005, will be presented to America through a group exhibition featuring the works of 16 Japanese artists, each assigned with the mission to cook Docomodakes according to their personal recipes including painting, illustration or photography. The show was curated in Japan, and we were commissioned to bring it to life in New York.

“DOWNRIGHT”
curated by Jashar Awan
October 5 – Nov. 17, 2007

PEP is excited to present Downright, an illustration show, curated by our own Jashar Awan. In anticipation of the December release of Taschen’s Illustration Now 2, in which Awan is featured, we asked Jashar, an artist whose work has been seen in many galleries and in popular publications such as The New York Times, Vibe, and The New Yorker, to put together a show of his favorite comtemporary illustrators. The outcome is a gathering of 40 artists pulled together in one spot, PEP. From highly renowned artists to rising stars, the show is not to be missed.

Featuring Illustration Faculty & Alums: George Bates, Jordin Isip, Phillip Fivel Nessen, Chang Park

AN EVENING WITH INGO FAST

Society of Illustrators, October 3rd, 6.30pm, tickets $10 ($6 for students)

Illustrator Ingo Fast’s year long, slow trip around the world posed difficulties not only in respect to the various modes of transportation he chose, but also in how he would continue his work as an illustrator. Often it wasn’t just the work itself or how he would carry it (e. g. cramped on a bus or train, balancing his drawing pad on a sailboat, finding a quiet corner in a hotel lobby or working in the children’s playroom of a public library). Also a challenge was discovering which means of communication would be available to transmit his sketches and illustrations: from slow dial-up internet connections to not too stable satellite phone-to-laptop hook-ups.
