James Jean is Releasing a new Monograph “Rebus” – Come Celebrate with us at Reed Space

Join us as we celebrate the release of Rebus, a new monograph by the artist James Jean. The book signing will be held at Reed Space, 151 Orchard St between Stanton St and Rivington St. Other books by the artist will be available for sale including Rift, XOXO, and Kindling. The event will take place on Sunday October 23rd from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. We look forward to seeing you there! Additional information can be found here. Rebus showcases everything from James Jean’s eerily dreamy oil paintings to his illustration work. The new monograph is the culmination of a well thought out and fully articulated instillation. James leaves us feeling fulfilled as he showcases his creative milestones even including never before seen pages from his sketch book.

Frank Miller at Union Square Barnes and Noble

To celebrate the release of his first original graphic novel in ten years, Holy Terror, comic creator Frank Miller and Legendary Comics Editor-In-Chief Bob Schreck will be speaking at the Union Square Barnes and Noble on October 14th from 7-9pm. Frank Miller will be signing copies of Holy Terror and giving away limited edition Holy Terror posters. Anton Kannemeyer at the Jack Shainman Gallery

Controversial artist Anton Kannemeyer’s second solo show at the Jack Shainman Gallery, titled “After the Barbarians”, is open October 13th through November 12th with an opening reception on Thursday, October 13, 6 – 8pm. In the show, Kannemeyer tackles issues of colonialism, racism, and bigotry through a series of large scale painting and works on paper. Sue Coe Speaks at The New School

Join us on Tuesday, October 11th from 4-6pm for an artist talk by illustrator Sue Coe hear who will talk about her work, answer questions, and engage in a conversation with Printmaking faculty and master printer, Paul Marcus.

This public presentation is a part of an Artist-In-Residence pilot program, sponsored by Parsons School of Art, Media + Technology, Parsons Printmaking, The Vera List Center for Art and Politics, The Curatorial Research Lab, The New School Art Collection, and the Illustration Program.

Children’s Literary Salon – Coming to America

The New York Public Library is hosting an panel discussing differences between American children’s books and those from other countries. Such subjects as the impact of translation on a story will be discussed by a panel that includes Parsons Illustration’s Associate Professor Nora Krug. Fierlinger Couple Brings an Element of the Hand Drawn to Digital Animation in “My Dog Tulip”


“My Dog Tulip,” is a film based on the memoir of J.R. Ackerley, writer and BBC Radio host. The film has been digitally animated by Paul and Sandra Fierlinger, using traditional animation techniques. The resulting blend of digital yet hand-made art has a unique and endearing aesthetic that lends itself perfectly to Ackerley’s story. For more information check out this New York Times article.
