Student of the Week: Sophie Won

This week’s student of the week is Sophie (Hyun-Ju) Won. Her work, although colorful and bright in nature, presents a beautiful and almost light-hearted approach to disturbing and oddball subject matters.

Artist Statement:

My work looks at the relationship between nature and man. Depending on how the audience perceives it, my work can be viewed as abstract or representational. I enjoy making images with strong impressions of colour, even if the imagery or concepts may appear disturbing to viewers. In my illustrations, I like to use a multitude of media, such as, watercolor, graphite, charcoal, conte, as well as lithographic printing techniques.
