Pro-Regime Gunmen Break Syrian Cartoonist’s Hands

drawing by Ali Ferzat, Syria's best-known political cartoonist

Masked gunmen dragged Syria’s best-known political cartoonist from his car before dawn Thursday, beat him severely and broke both his hands as a warning to stop drawing just days after he compared Syria’s president to Moammar Gaddafi. Click below to read more:

Opportunity for Parsons Illustration Students

Current Parsons student Teresa Nimirowski has an interesting (and paid!) job opportunity for Illustration students.  Her friend’s band needs illustrations, and potentially an animation, to go along with their song, currently featured in a promo for HBO.  Information on the job and contacts are below:

“Hey there guys!

My band Two Seconds to Midnight are currently being featured on HBO as the music for the worldwide promo campaign for the second season of Boardwalk Empire.
Our song is called Opt1m1sm and can be heard on our website, www.twosecondstomidnight.com

We are looking to have some visual representation for the song as it seems a lot of people are looking it up online and downloading it. We are welcoming any students, designers, animators to pitch us some ideas and help us put together a (preferably) animated video. We love the work of the likes of Shynola and some of the more recent Radiohead videos… doesn’t have to be near as complex as those, but just so you know where we are coming from. Can be a very simple idea executed beautifully. Something that should go along with the tone of the song and doesnt have to be literal, can be abstract.

We can offer a little bit of pay (negotiable $250/$300) but along with that there will be a lot of exposure. The song is already getting a lot of hits and the first teaser promo from the show is already at around 110,000 views.

Please get in touch via the below email address if you are interested in collaborating with us in this project!

Cheers!
