In coordination with the the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum, students in Parsons School of Art, Media and Technology’s BFA program in Photography will show their work in a joint New York-Santa Fe exhibition taking place December through February of 2009 and 2010. Featuring work from artists Katherine Edwards, Joel Jagerroos, Camile Godoy, Laura Gonzales, Jessica Ledbetter, Silja Magnusdottir, Therese Ohrvall, Lizzy Oppenheimer, Veronica Rafael, Bailey Roberts, Bernadette Vitale, the exhibition, “Constructed Identities,” completes its Santa Fe run on January 8th, and opens at the Thomas Werner Gallery in New York (526 West 26th Street, #712) on February 4th, running through February 6th.

The opportunity to partner with the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum was an invaluable experience. Replicating the shift that took place as O’Keeffe traveled between New York and Santa Fe, our student’s found themselves stimulated by location and unencumbered expectation as they explored themselves, the landscape, their creative process, and each other. The result was a rebirth and a reconnection with the pleasure and intimacy of a more personal form of creating. Seated against their process in New York, the setting aside of preconception allowed for the discovery of conceptual interpretation through the act of making, making possible a body of work that would not otherwise have occurred.

This experience, and the corresponding exhibitions, has been made possible due the generosity of the staff at the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum and Educational Center, as well as the generous donation of time and insight provided by local gallerists, cultural leaders, artists and institutions in Santa Fe.
