  • For my thesis The Healers, a collection of character designs and visual development for an animation concept, I wanted to work on developing my own characters and their world. I’ve always found the designs for animation far more fascinating than the final product. It’s interesting to see the way a character transforms throughout the design process until they finally reach their final form. I believe that one of the most important parts of character design is capturing a character’s personality, as well as conveying the way they may interact with the people and environment around them. When designing characters, I try to answer the simplest questions. For example, how does this character sit in a chair or how do they put on a sweater? The audience should be able to imagine how these characters walk down the street or how they may speak to each other just by looking at the designs. I want the viewer to believe that these characters and the world I’ve illustrated really could exist. In my illustrations, I love building magical worlds filled with magical people. I want to encourage people to continue using their imaginations, even when they’re old!
