  • Many people have made images about addiction, but what does it truly look like? I didn’t know I was in “active addiction” even when I was having cold sweats in church from the withdrawal. Or when I was so sick I couldn’t even lift myself off of the bathroom floor to crush up some more pills. Or when I would thrust myself in toxic relationships where the only thing we had in common were our daily drinking habits. Creating work that reflects on my drug use has become vital to my healing process. Drawing inspiration from my own personal experience as well as that of fellow addicts in recovery, my most recent project titled Drug Dreams discusses the weight of stereotypical and romanticized imagery in the media surrounding addicts in America, and challenges that idea with images that embody a realistic visualization of addiction in suburbia.
