  • Lily Engelmaier is a Brooklyn, NY based visual artist. Her work explores various aspects of the human condition; including but not limited to philosophies of the self, collectivity, and interdependency.

  • In her artist book Technologically Prescribed she focused on the ways the pressure for self-definition and forced identification on the internet affects the formation of individual and collective identity. Using photographic imagery and writing, she asks questions of and about digital existence. The imagery within the book translates her most human experiences into manufactured glitches using close-crops depicting moments of touch, digital inversion and solarization, and a recurring overlay of a gridded screen. Throughout her last year at Parsons School of Design she worked collaboratively with her peers as a co-organizer and lead writer to create Unbound, an immersive online show and campaign showcasing the works of the 2021 BFA Photography Class. The show can be found at unboundgallery.com.
