Heaven of Our Own

Brooke Goldyn is a nonbinary photographer in New York NY, whose work questions gender binaries, performance, and expression while using a photographic space to move towards collective queer healing.

Heaven of Our Own is an exercise in building my healing queer utopia within a photobook. The collection of experiential photographs stands to hold a place for one to slow down, sit, be held, and enter a meditative trance state where they can begin to rest, restore, and heal from the harshness that living often is for queer people. The book utilizes visuals of the car, the sky, and color gradients to symbolize the metamorphic mist that queerness is, as the car is never stagnant, the sky is ever-changing, and being immersed in color allows one to float.
