Tealoni LaVonne is a New York city- based visual artist and director. Also known by the sobriquet ‘TearyEyedAngel'.

Self reflection is an autobiographical exploration of the process of creating self-portraiture. I investigate the idea of identity and the way that self-portraiture is the subjective interpretation of oneself. The images are captured from the beginning of college to the present day. Are self-portraits the truth? Through my performances, one can imagine how I feel inside. They can assume confidence or security. Those beliefs would be false. In this collection, I am the outside viewer representing how my insufficient awareness has made me feel a disconnect from these portraits and the memories attached to them. This collection of works shows how inadequate self-confidence has negatively affected me, but in my documented images I embrace a confident physique that contrasts with how I feel in my body. If you can share the same thoughts or feelings, you are likely to realize how these sequences enter a private space.
