  • Naomi Liechty’s art practice centers around ideas of collecting, archiving, and self-obsession. She has self- published nine artist books including: The Perch, The Perch Mini, and Hard Feelings.

  • Liechty’s thesis consists of a stack of handmade yellow boxes. Each box contains an archive relating to the artist’s existence. These include a document entitled, Everything I Know About Myself, a collection of letters from everyone the artist knows answering the prompt: ‘please write everything you know about me’, a replication of the artist’s postcard collection, a series of prints documenting the length of the project, a voice box of her speaking, and a single piece of her hair. This archiving process memorializes Liechty as a living person and creates a skewed narrative of her existence. By examining objects, memories, and “facts” Liechty asks questions of what it means to document a person, group, or time into an archive and examines the inherent impossibility of “truth” that comes along with that task.
