Madison Woiten is an artist based in New York City. Through photography she explores the specificities of being raised in a broken home.

In Picking at the Scab Until it Bleeds, Woiten explores and questions agency, vulnerability, and intimacy as it appears in her own relationship, juxtaposed to what she witnessed while being raised by parents who could not demonstrate how to give and receive love within a relationship. By looking to her parent’s relationship, the only example she witnessed growing up, Woiten is able to realize her nurtured notions surrounding men and relationships. The final product of this process is an intimate look into Woiten’s identity as a sexual and romantic being as a woman who has been subject to a patriarchy since childhood.
