The Whitney Seeks Jr. Web Developer

The Whitney Museum of American Art is looking for a Junior Web Developer (part time consultant or intern).

Reporting to the Manager of Interactive Technology, the consultant will provide support to the Whitney web team, including content migration; back-end user account administration; front-end hacking and bug chasing; site scanning; image chopping; and in spare time, implementing improvements to whitney.org’s custom wiki-style CMS through Javascript and/or Ruby on Rails. The role requires professional communication skills, independent organization and self-motivation, and a sharp eye for grammar, style, type-driven design, and elegant coding.

This is a great opportunity to gain experience with a fantastic design and content team, an appreciative staff, a well-built new website, and a world class art institution.

Skills required:
Intermediate Javascript, intermediate Ruby on Rails (preferably with Protoype and Scriptilicious), advanced HTML and CSS

Other desired additional skills/interests:
Google Analytics API and data visualization; Linux/Apache/RoR administration; MySQL; Phusion Passenger; Sphinx; iTunes University and 3rd party multimedia content management; Git version control; jQuery; AuthSub/OAuth; LDAP/Active Directory; Microsoft .NET; data structures; server security

Schedule and rate:
Up to 20 per week, with rate depending on experience and proficiency in skills listed above. Compensated internships will also be considered for newly graduated programmers, current students, and others looking to gain entry-level tech work experience.
