Parsons Needs Student Technical Designer

This position will support ongoing design, coding, and programming for Parsons’ suite of WordPress blogs. The designer will work closely with the AMT technical specialist, Parsons’ office of Academic Communications, the University’s Communications and External Affairs office (CEA), and the editors of the existing school wordpress magazines:

Responsibilities
– Provide design, coding, and programming support for Parsons’ suite of WordPress blogs
– Develop and build out redesign schemes for adht.parsons.edu and sce.parsons.edu
– Provide creative solutions to new initiatives as requested by the Schools
– Coordinate regular routine backup of the web server in consultation with AMT technical specialist (to be hired)
– Work with CEA to adhere to consistent Parsons-wide category and tagging scheme, and to provide consistent modes of navigation back to the Parsons site and other magazines
– Conduct user training for blog contributors as needed
– Manage setup of child blogs as needed

Requirements
– 1-2 years developing web sites and web interfaces
– Experience working on large, multi-part, CMS-driven web applications
– Experience developing, debugging, and optimizing WordPress themes (plug-ins is a plus)
– Must be able to clearly demonstrate current WP experience with live online examples
– Solid understanding of an commitment to web standards, accessibility guidelines, and web usability
– Strong command of HTML/XHTML and CSS
– Familiarity with object-oriented JavaScript and relevant frameworks (eg. MooTools, jQuery)
– Familiarity with object-oriented PHP
– Must have strong sense of visual design along with the technical side
– Experience with Ajax and jQuery a plus
– Experience working on mobile platforms a plus
– Familiarity with version control, eg. SVN or Mercurial a plus
