MFA DT alum Cedar Daniels co-produced, edited, and did post-production for the film The Third Wave. The Third Wave was shot in 2004 in Sri Lanka in the wake of the tsunami that left some 170,000 people dead across Asia. The film chronicles a 6 month long struggle by independent volunteers to rebuild the tribal village of Peralyia that was totally destroyed by a 40-foot tsunami wave, leaving 2500 people dead. Director Alison Thompson handed Daniels over 240 hours of raw footage, which he distilled into 94 minutes conveying the story of those lives affected.

The Third Wave premiered at last years Tribeca Film Festival, and in an unprecedented first it was presented in a “presidential jury screening” by Sean Penn at the 61st Cannes film festival. The film also won best documentary at the Monaco film festival this year.
