NYPOP alumna Ana-Maria Campos, MFA, is the Director of Computer Resource Centers and RECYouth, a citywide media education and communication program for youth and young adults. This summer and fall, Ms. Campos is initiating an exciting internship program in film, video, and outdoor installations, for students across the nation to come to New York and work with NYC Parks on a variety of creative projects throughout the city. Each summer, fall and spring, this program runs youth and young-adult oriented visual arts and multimedia workshops citywide, lead by seasoned media arts educators in collaboration with qualified college interns.
At present, There is one project in place for this summer in need of qualified interns as follows:
NYC Parks and Recreation Green-Teens Program, Community Open Space Design Internship (7 positions)
(July 23 – August 17th, 2012)
This summer NYC Parks and Recreation will be hosting a teen oriented project titled, “Green Teens”, a collaborative workshop lead by department of parks planning department, NYC Recreation teen program coordinators, and Park’s computer resource educators in all 5 boroughs. At present, we are actively seeking up to 7 summer interns who are currently juniors, seniors or graduate students of architecture, landscape architecture, urban planning, or open space management (other concentrations?).
Candidates must be interested in working as part of a borough-based design team to include New York City Parks’ project managers, designers, architects and engineers, borough teen coordinators, media arts technology instructors, and approximately 10-12 teens in the creation of sustainable park designs throughout the city.
Successful candidates will be committed to their field within these areas, have appropriate computer skills, eager to collaborate in these open space and park design projects with a focus on environmental sustainability, and have solid desire to engage in a community stewardship and youth-based education project.
Candidate will:
Participate as an intern in a multi-disciplinary project team, under the supervision of a Parks design and teen program staff.
Assist team lead and student participants in the development of a plan, as well as creation and assemble of presentation materials for in-house and potential client design review meetings, project proposals, and public presentations.
Skills Required:
Experience in 3-d drafting and graphic software work on landscape design projects.
Model-making in clay, paper, foam core, and wood in the design phases of landscape projects.
Interest in working with and stewarding inner-city youth in design projects.
Knowledge of Google Sketchup and the Adobe Creative Suite (version 3 or later) is required.
Demonstrated self-motivation and the ability to work within a team structure.
A keen understanding of open space and landscape architectural design process and documentation.
An interest in further developing knowledge in landscape architecture and related pursuits.
