Get On The Bus is a campaign started by four ambitious students from Parsons, Christoffer Laursen Hald, Felicitas Kofler, Joely Saravia, and Cole Cooper, while taking AMT faculty Julia Gorton’s “Designing For Non-Profits” class. The goal is to raise $10,000 in order for the New York based non-profit organization The Supply to purchase a school bus for children in the Matopeni slums in Kenya. At the moment, these students have to walk several miles in order to get to school, the walk is not only long but also unsafe. Several children have been reported to experience physical or sexual abuse while walking to and from school.
Living in New York the trip to school is incredibly easy. We have subways, buses, bicycles, cabs, cars, and sidewalks. It isn’t hard to imagine how much harder our everyday life would be if our only option was to walk everywhere. So we got in touch with The Supply and shared our idea of raising money for a school bus. Getting a school bus would mean a lot to a non-profit organization like The Supply but even more to the students!
$10,000 is a lot of money. But all we really need is for everybody to contribute whatever amount they can spare. Whether it’s $5 or $100 it all goes towards getting fellow students safer to school.
So grab a seat on the bus and spread the word, we appreciate all the help we can get!
