Artist Bio

Isaiah Winters

Isaiah Winters is a documentary photographer, director, and conceptual artist based in Brooklyn, NYC. After finishing a bachelor's degree in sociology from Salisbury University, he went on to serve in the United States Air Force as cryptologic linguist. Focus on representation, social landscapes, and analog processes assist in giving his work temporal qualities. Through an emphasis on aesthetic elements and photographic history, the work highlights the effects everyday imagery and popular culture can have on viewers. Current investigations include a deep dive into the history of the photographic medium and visual language. The establishment of myths within the American landscape and other colonized regions are important to his practice. Winters has over nine years of experience creating work for nationally-recognized editorial and commercial clients. His work has been featured in numerous publications and editorial spaces including The New York Times, Baltimore Magazine, and the Maryland Historical Society.
