Into the Oven

Into the Oven is an ode to the joy of baking, reflecting on the comfort that the baking process provides.

The idea for Into the Oven started as a desire to fit my love for baking into my busy schedule. I wanted to create a project that would allow me to spend time in the kitchen, as well as practicing my interests in writing, photography, and graphic design. Into the Oven discusses my memories of baking both growing up and more recently, the difference in experience baking from scratch versus with a mix, and more. I chose photography as the medium for the book’s illustrations, stemming from an interest in pushing the boundaries of what can be considered illustration. As a dual-degree student with writing as my second major, I see the writing and its ability to conjure imagery as a form of illustration as well.
