Reconstruction

My thesis focuses on the process of creating abstract, non narrative comics, concentrating on the formal qualities of comics, opposed to using images as a vehicle for storytelling. I would like the viewer to view each image as if they were reading a comic, creating a story or structure for themselves.

My initial plan was to make very straightforward comics but I kept making page after, after page of “first pages” and eventually out of frustration just began drawing out of intuition. Taking words or phrases from memory and forcing them into my drawings without context or meaning. It was a study of how image and text layed on a page and would be together with the drawing instead of coexisting together seamlessly.
