  • ‘Animal Hybrid 2’ is a black and white 80-page sequel to a comic that I created in the summer of 2020, and is the continuation of my original character’s story, which takes place one year after the events that transpired in the first comic.

  • Plot summary: Naomi Yamada is well settled into her new life in the outside world, where she lives in a small town with the kind Mrs. Sato and her son, Ken. However, her past comes back to haunt her when she has a surprise reunion with her best friend, Momo, only to find out that she is fully intent on bringing Naomi back to the lab. At the same time, a resistance group also shows up and asks Naomi to join in their efforts. 

    1. For my thesis, I chose to do an original comic since it’s something I enjoy making in my spare time, along with telling stories. In addition to that, I also enjoy coming up my own original characters (OCs). In this case, one particular OC – Naomi Yamada – has stuck with me since high school. She is an animal hybrid – a half-dog – who grew up in a lab with others like her, but eventually manages to escape to the outside world. My comic is titled ‘Animal Hybrid 2’ and as the title suggests, it is a sequel to Naomi’s story. The first comic details Naomi’s life growing up in the lab and then subsequently escaping. The sequel continues her story one year after escaping, when she’s already mostly settled into her new life, but not for long. Creating this was a bit of a journey, and I spent quite a bit of time in the planning stages. However, the end result is a polished comic that I can be definitely proud of, and through this process, I was able to improve on my comic illustration skills.
