Lethe
“Lethe” is a hand drawn 2D animation that depicts two boy’s encounter with a forbidden land in a fantastical world where spiritual realities intertwine with the physical.
.
This film is an allegorical depiction of a world where spiritual realities become corporeally tangible. Heaven or hell may become a physical reality on the earth depending on one’s choices. The opposite of community is isolation. Where the land has burned it is empty, isolated, nothing grows. The film is an attempt to close the disconnect between physical and spiritual reality by unveiling their interrelation.
“Lethe” is a hand-drawn animated film about a group of women and children living together in the forest after their homeland was destroyed by an angel years prior. They attempted to save the angel from the evil which overcame their land and they were spared for their sacrifice. The film follows two boys as they venture into the destroyed land where nothing has since grown. The older women live in peace because of their safe departure from this land. The boys trespassing here invites detrimental physical realities into the sanctified land.
Ryann Logeais is an animator/illustrator/fine artist. She is interested in the history of storytelling, the ethics of film, and experimental animation. She is concerned with complacency and the obsession with self. She is interested in the worlds that exist just outside of our perception and how animated films are suited to explore these worlds. She hopes to keep creating films that meditate on our true significance on this earth.
