Shifting Moralities & Embracing Darkness
The inevitable ties of tragedy
We are all bonded to darkness by the mere existence of its opposite – light. To embrace the shadows is a way to understand the unknown and a way to heal from the experience of their existence. Darkness, something often seen as ugly, fearsome, taboo, can perhaps be loved and accepted too.
Originally a series of 10 illustrations paired with 10 poems, Shifting Moralities & Embracing Darkness is an exploration of the relationships between humans, monsters, and morality. At what point does the line blur between monster and human? Can a human be monstrous, and can a monster show humanity? The series exists in a world of metaphors, a place where there is no black or white, only greyness. Illustrations and self-written poems work together in pairs to provide a deeper narrative, implementing elements of mental health and queerness in the classical aesthetic. The whole series, including poems, can be viewed on artstation.
