  • Exploring the relationship between child and nature.

  • Growing up in a small rural town in Upstate New York, nature has always been a huge part of my life. Many of my most cherished memories involve being in and interacting with nature and animals.

There are many specific species of plants and insects native to my hometown that I associate distinct memories with. My thesis aims to evoke these memories in a vague, poetic way that allows the viewer to essentially write the story themselves. It is an exploration and interpretation of my relationship with nature, through the lens of my child self.

Through a series of woodcut “portraits” of specific species native to my hometown, each paired with a sentence evoking my distinct memories, I aim to express and explore the meaningful relationship I have had with nature throughout my life.
