  • Women and Technology

  • A series of paintings focusing on placing women in virtual environments to deviate from traditional portraiture of women and nature.

  • Women are not often associated with technological competence, so I wanted to create traditional classical portraiture and merge it with untraditional means of expressing femininity. There are also references to video games in the works as a nod to female gamers. As a woman who enjoys gaming and is involved with other (mostly male) gamers, I have been able to reflect on personal experiences with men lacking expectancy for any skill when gaming together simply because of my femininity. I wanted to portray the power in effeminateness existing in the overwhelmingly masculine world of technology.
