Marisa Herman
Thesis
Marisa Herman is a Brooklyn photographer and writer focused on the transience of all things. Her work employs collage to re-contextualize relics of past realities.
Prompted by the cyclical nature of life and experience, this collage-based accordion book has no beginning or end. When fully opened, it takes the shape of a circle to ensure a circular view of lived experience both physically and conceptually. On the pages are vernacular portrayals of a life in motion with recurring faces, objects, images, and symbols. These elements are collaged and re-contextualized many times over to echo the unpredictable and non- linear experience of memory.
