New York Shark Girl

Alicia is an artist/activist from New York. Her work is inspired by the natural beauty of the earth and around environmental issues, both with messages of conservation.

“New York Shark Girl” is a research based, informative, performance piece. Taking one aspect of my own interests within my activism, dissecting it, and enlarging it to fit my thesis project. I dive into the problems of trophy hunting sharks from the place I grew up, in hopes to bring awareness and evoke compassion for a misunderstood animal. Inspired by works from other activists like Madison Stewart and Jaques Cousteau, I bring activism and art together to create the character of New York Shark Girl as a way to get policy changed enacted to conserve a dying species.
